City turning into transit point for drug
The city, it appears, is becoming a transit point for the smuggling of raw material to South-East Asia for party drugs, particularly Amphetamine-Type Stimulant (ATS). Three persons, including a Malaysian national, who were arrested here on Friday last and 300 kg of Ephedrine seized, told Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials that they had exported similar consignments to Malaysia at least five times in the recent past.
Kalidoss alias Doss (34), a Malaysian national spotted roaming at the Chennai port on Friday, was intercepted by NCB officials and questioned. He told them about a consignment destined for Malaysia and a team rushed to a pest control firm on Second Line Beach Road in Parrys and recovered 300 kg of Ephedrine. It was concealed in 12 card-board drums that were to be loaded in containers. The NCB officials arrested booking agents Sathyan and Sukumaran in this connection.
