Sting nets conman

An African believed to be part of a group targeting Malaysians in online scams was arrested in a sting operation involving a reporter from theSun whom the conmen were trying to cheat.

Plainclothes policemen who were shadowing the reporter made the arrest when a 24-year-old African who is registered as a student at a private college, tried to make a run for it when he sensed something amiss, just before the US$8,000 the reporter was carrying changed hands.

The drama took place last Thursday afternoon near the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre recreation park where the reporter was told to go with his money in exchange for a box purportedly containing US$4.86 million.
