Mohd Razak Isa, the managing director of OrchidLife, observed that so far Malaysia’s wealth of soil, land and space have not been managed well.
“There is no technology behind our produce,” he said.
If one were to compare Malaysian agriculture to other countries, Malaysia is way behind. It is worrying to see Singapore, which does not have much land, ranked at number two, when it comes to orchid rearing and export.
“Malaysia has only been able to secure third place in the world ranking of orchid-producing countries with stagnant production capacities. Thailand is at the top and Singapore is number two... Singapore has hardly any land available for such ventures or the land is far too expensive.
